Vermont, ranked forty-ninth in population with 625,000 residents, has one accredited, post-secondary on-site option for future automotive mechanics. The principal automotive technology program is offered at the Vermont Technology College.
Vermont Tech’s Academy of Science and Technology has campuses at Randolph Center and Williston, near Burlington. Their Transportation Technology Department, accredited by the NATEF, offers Associate of Applied Science academic degrees in two areas, Automotive Technology and Diesel Power Technology.
Vermont also has at least three online universities offering courses to prepare for ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification. Online education is frequently the only option for those who are currently employed and seeking to upgrade their knowledge level to achieve certifications. Schools offering online courses in automotive engineering and mechanics are Ashworth College, Penn Foster Career School and Stratford Career Institute.
Vermont Tech’s program requires a minimum of 65 hours of coursework and extensive hands-on lab projects. Classwork is devoted to electronics, mechanical systems, design, and the analysis and solution of system failures.
After completion of the course work and final examinations, the graduates receive an Associate Degree in their chosen concentration and ASE Certification.
