Depending on which school you apply to, there are various eligibility requirements that must be fulfilled, and those can include having earned a GED or having passed certain courses in high school. Application Process & Costs

The application process and cost of each program will depend on exactly what you are looking for. Some of the community colleges, including Gillette College and Casper College, offer an accelerated program where you can earn a certificate of completion in 9 months. If you decide to do the two-year program, you will receive an associate of applied science degree in diesel mechanics.

Depending on what program you choose will dictate how much the program will cost. However, Wyoming has one of the lowest tuition rates in the nation. Currently, Wyoming doesn’t offer any online courses for diesel mechanics, but they have outstanding hands-on classes that will prepare you for a fulfilling and rewarding career in the field.

Maintaining Certification/License & Renewal

Wyoming doesn’t require you to earn any specific licenses to work in the state legally. However, you have the ability to become certified through the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) by taking their tests. This costs, but it has the potential to increase your earning power. Every 5 years, you will have to renew your license by retaking the exams.
